Reds Set new Consecutive-Game On-Base Streak Record

The Cincinnati Reds and Oakland Athletics traded blows all night in a back-and-forth affair at the Oakland Coliseum on Tuesday, May 10, 2023 — a game that featured a combined 26 hits and 19 runs.

The Athletics jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Reds answered right back with three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead.

The two teams traded leads three more times before the Reds finally took the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning on a two-run double by Aristides Aquino.

The Reds bullpen held on for the win, with Art Warren getting the final three outs to earn his second save of the season.

The win was the Reds' fifth in a row and improved their record to 23-22 on the season.

The Athletics, meanwhile, fell to 21-24 with the loss.

Reds injuries continue to pile up

The Reds' win was bittersweet, as they lost two more players to injury during the game.

Starting pitcher Luis Castillo left the game in the fourth inning with a right shoulder injury.

Castillo is now 2-5 with a 5.09 ERA this season.

Outfielder Nick Senzel left the game in the seventh inning with a left hamstring injury.

Senzel is now hitting .243 with four home runs and 14 RBIs this season.

The Reds have now lost four players to injury in the past week, including infielder Mike Moustakas and outfielder Tyler Naquin.

Reds call up young arms amidst injuries

With Castillo and Senzel now on the injured list, the Reds have called up two young arms from their minor league system.

Right-handed pitcher Graham Ashcraft and left-handed pitcher Brandon Williamson have both been called up from Triple-A Louisville.

Ashcraft is 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA in seven starts for Louisville this season.

Williamson is 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA in seven starts for Louisville this season.

Both Ashcraft and Williamson are expected to make their major league debuts this week.

Reds set new consecutive-game on-base streak record

The Reds set a new franchise record on Tuesday night by reaching base in 53 consecutive games.

The previous record was 52 games, set in 1976.

The Reds are now one game behind the Oakland Athletics for the longest on-base streak in Major League Baseball this season.

The Athletics have reached base in 54 consecutive games.
